Orthotics

All our health begins in our feet. It is important that we take care of them the best we can, and safeguard them from easy-to-fix ailments that could throw your whole body out of alignment. If you're finding you are experiencing pains such as heel pain (Plantar Fasciitis), or even a pinched nerve (neuroma), try to take a look about where the pain is originating from.

Almost always, the way we walk and stand affects our body from head to toe. Depending if your feet roll in or roll out, are flat on the ground all day or being used constantly by a job where you stand, our feet go through a lot. This basis could shift your back, hips and neck out of alignment causing you to feel the aches and pains that you are so familiar with. Custom fit orthotics are designed to help rectify this.

Unsure if you actually need orthotics? These groups are who I recommend orthotics to most often:

Those who are on their feet all day. Like the foundation of a house, your feet are the foundation of your body. It's important to take care of them from constant strain as much as possible to try to avoid related injuries.

Athletes. From those who frequent the gym to those who casually walk the neighborhood, you are straining your feet and ankles by not having proper support. Orthotics could drastically change the way you walk/workout and help offer relief to your body.

Those who wear high heels often. You'll find when taking high heels off after wearing them for a long time you don't get a great sense of relief from standing flat on the ground. This is because your foot isn't being supported properly. With a custom fit orthotic you will be able to stand in your heels longer without pain along with once stepping out of them with no pain to your ankles, hips or lower back.

Those with diabetes. Pressure surrounding your feet can be dangerous for someone living with diabetes. Ulcers or wounds created by poor footwear could become detrimental and lead to much more severe problems.

Patients with overpronation. This is when your feet gently roll inwards when walking or standing, as if you're walking on only the inside of your foot instead of all of it. If you find your body does this, it will cause your knees to roll inward and tilt your pelvis forward producing pain in your feet, knees, hips, back, shoulders, and neck.

Custom fit orthotics are the number one recommended fix for these complaints. Our office deals directly with Foot Levelers and are knowledgeable in their products, allowing the doctor to recommend the best style, fit, and products to get you back to feeling 100% again. At our office we make a custom cast of each foot, ensuring that each distinctive mark is recorded to get the perfect fit for you. We then ship out the molds to the company who produces your very own, custom fit orthotics.

Orthotics can be soft, rigid, flexible, stiff and even somewhere in between based on your needs for your specific problem.

We recommend having at least two pairs for different kinds of shoes but at the bare minimum one pair to be switched through your shoes. The office will be happy to answer any questions you might have and will help you take the next step in the process!
